Our Journey

From a Dorm Prayer Circle to a Campus Movement

What began as a handful of students praying for revival in the sciences has grown into a national network of believers integrating faith with intellect, innovation and service. Every milestone has been an answer to prayer.

Christ-Centered

Jesus is the foundation of everything we build.

Mind & Spirit

We pursue excellence in scholarship and devotion alike.

2014

The First Altar

Twelve students gather weekly in a UC San Diego dorm to pray for their campus and study Scripture together.

2016

Faith Meets Intelligence

The first “Faith & Sciences” forum draws 300 students, launching our signature blend of apologetics and academics.

2019

Going National

Chapters multiply to 10 universities; the national leadership council and governing documents are formally established.

2022

Beyond the Campus

First short-term mission teams deploy; the Watch Altars ecosystem (Media, Labs, Foundation) takes shape.

Today

42 Chapters & Growing

A thriving movement of 3,800+ students living out faith with intellectual courage across the nation and the world.

What Drives Us

Our Core Values

Six convictions shape how we gather, lead, learn and love.

Christ Above All

Jesus is supreme — in our worship, our study and our witness. We exist to make Him known.

Intellectual Courage

We ask hard questions without fear, convinced that all truth is God’s truth.

Authentic Community

No masks, no performance — just honest people growing together in grace.

Servant Leadership

We lead by washing feet. Influence is stewardship, not status.

Mission-Minded

From the dorm to the nations — the Gospel compels us outward.

Spirit-Empowered

We depend on the Holy Spirit, not our own strength, for every good work.

About Watch Altars

Watch Altars is a campus ministry movement within a wider faith + technology ecosystem. We partner with local churches and never replace them — our calling is to disciple students where they study, work and innovate.

Not at all. Everyone is welcome — the curious, the questioning and the committed. Our gatherings are open spaces to explore faith honestly. Leadership roles, however, do require alignment with our Statement of Faith.

A national leadership council, an advisory board and chapter-level teams operate under our published Constitution & Bylaws, Leadership Standards and Policies — all available in our Foundational Documents.

Review the Chapter Requirements, then submit the Chapter Application. Our launch team will guide you through training, documents and mentorship — most chapters launch within 60 days.
