Four Roads to the Field

Every long-term missionary follows one of these primary callings. Tap a tab to explore the role, training, and what a typical first term looks like.

Career Missionary

A lifelong vocational calling to live cross-culturally, learn a language and people, and devote your entire career to making disciples in one place. Career missionaries are the long-haul backbone of every field.

Training & Preparation

Be Prepared Before You Go

Four pillars of preparation. Track your progress through each as you ready yourself for the field.

Bible & Theology Training

Foundational doctrine, biblical theology of missions, and hermeneutics. Delivered through our Institute or partner seminaries.

Cross-Cultural Prep

Worldview, contextualization, culture shock and conflict resolution. Includes a weekend immersion intensive.

Language acquisition methods and field-based study. Partnered with online platforms and on-site schools.

Field Training

A supervised short-term assignment to test your calling and gain hands-on field experience with a mentor.

From Inquiry to Departure

Inquiry & Conversation

Meet with a missions coach to explore your calling, ask questions and pray together.

Formal Application

Submit your written application, testimony and three references (see form below).

Interviews & Assessment

Panel interviews, psychological assessment and a candidate retreat weekend.

Training & Equipping

Complete the four training pillars and a supervised field internship.

Support Raising

Build a team of prayer and financial partners until you reach 100% of budget.

Commissioning & Departure

Be commissioned by the church and sent to the field with a care team behind you.
